Back to School Apple Wreath

The kids go back to school in just a few days and I've been busy getting ready for our annual Back to School dinner. This is a tradition that I started before we had kids. My husband was getting ready to go back to college after taking the summer off and was less than enthusiastic about the grueling schedule and homework, so I bought him some new "school clothes" and "school" supplies, wrapped them up and fixed a special dinner. That's when our Back to School dinner was born.

Now we have 4 kids and 3 of them will be in school this year. (I always feel a bit anxious sending my kiddos out into the big world by themselves! But I try to act excited for school so that my kids will be.) I wanted to share a few ideas that I am incorporating this year to help you get "excited" about school time!

First up is my Green Apple Back to School Wreath. I've had this green apple wreath for a few years. I always put it up at the end of August and keep it up through most of September. This year it just looked so plain. I decided a quick update would be to add some "BACK TO SCHOOL" bunting to the middle.

You may not have an apple wreath but the bunting idea can be used with any wreath. Just cut 12-(1.5") triangles using a heavy cardstock. I used my Cricut and the Celebrations cartridge-so easy. Also using my Cricut, I cut out the letters (3/4") with Platin Schoolbook cartridge using red vinyl. All of this could be done by hand or using alphabet stickers-just use what you have.

I strung the bunting on regular twine (you could used bakers twine, ribbon or thread) because it was just the right thickness to hold the triangles in place allowing me to make a space between the word BACK and TO.

Last, I choose to tie the twine onto the wreath so that I can remove it if I want to but you could use hot glue too.

I love it, but I admittedly have an obsession with buntings! I hope this inspires you to try adding some bunting to a wreath you already have. Quick and free! This project took me approximately 30 minutes from start to finish and I used all things that I already had.

I love the back to school wreath! I really love the idea of making school a festive, fun thing that the kids are excited about.

Your wreath turned out great, Christina! And I love how you encourage readers to use what they have on hand for their own creations!
